Roles of the Criminal Lawyer
posted on 17/3/2009

It was once said that one of the most exciting jobs is that of a criminal lawyer. As shown in many books, TV programs, and movies, this type of work best represents how justice for the people is served. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is an increasing number of lawyers who get into criminal law. These are the types of lawyers who represent clients who have been charged with a crime and are summoned to court.

In what instances will you be required to seek the help of a criminal lawyer? There are many scenarios that fall under this category, but here are some common ones: if you have been charged with a DUI or driving under the influence, in cases wherein an abduction or kidnapping is involved, if you have been accused of theft, trespassing, illegal possession of drugs or firearms, homicide, the list goes on. Criminal defense lawyers should be well-versed with criminal and penal law, and are tasked to present valuable evidence and relevant witnesses in court.

For the client in question, the criminal lawyer also has the task of finding the best possible settlement that can be achieved in any given criminal case. Whether it is in terms of financial compensation, community service to be rendered, or time spent in a prison facility. There are also criminal lawyers who work beyond private practice, and are tasked by government offices to represent clients who cannot afford their own lawyers. However, do note that not all criminal lawyers can find ways around a crime that has been committed. In the end, it is the duty of the court to ensure that due legal process is followed, the guilty charged, and justice be served.
